December's Social Media Feature and YOU!

Happy December, Blue Fern fans!

We hope you are enjoying this special holiday Season and are finding at least a little bit of time to be creative! Today we are sharing just a few of our finds from the past few weeks!

Remember to post your work and tag Blue Fern Studios for a chance to be featured … and just so that we can be sure to see your  creations!

First up we have this lovely album by Aida Haron of Singapore. If you visit her Instagram account at
@aidaville, you will find a quick video that she uploaded showing you all it's gorgeous hidden spots for photos and journaling! Great way to use Vintage Christmas, Aida!

Kylie Kingham's posted this lovely creation on Instagram, stating that shabby chic is her favorite style! Here she has used Blue Fern Studios Memoires to perfection! You'll want to follow her on Instagram at @paper_sweetpea. Also, be sure and check out her blog Paper Sweet Pea because this gal does it all … clean and simple, shabby, planners and altered art!

Hiromi Yasuda is a very busy scrapper and posts often! We are pleased to see her work with Blue Fern Studios products because she truly inspires. This is one of the most amazing uses of the Seaside Cottage paper collection that we have seen! She certainly has the perfect photo! The Perfect Day chipboard is a great final touch. Please follow her on Instagram at @nyanhiro.

If you have followed our Social Media posts for long, you know that we like to feature some altered art each month.  Here Aira Hashimoto has used cut files to create this amazing hot air balloon. This could be re-created with almost any of our paper collections to achieve different effects. Please follow Aira at @airahashimoto on Instagram.

Last but not least, we have this gorgeous Frolic creation by Kathy Martin. Kathy can be found on Instagram at @pinkieto07. We love how the warm tones blend perfectly with her outdoor photos. The dangling chippy and flower cluster are wonderful finishing touches.

We will be back later this month featuring some our Creative Team's favorites from this past year!
We thought it would be fun to see what the designers like best!  (If you visit us on Pinterest or Instagram, you'll get a sneak peek into ALL our 2016 inspiration!)

Next year we will be doing several Social Media posts a month, so don't forget to tag us so that we can find you!

See you soon!

    New Beginnings with Jelissa

Hello Blue Fern Studios fans, and welcome to the new year!

I'm up on the blog today with a video tutorial of how I put together a mixed media journal cover, using nothing more than Blue Fern Studios chipboards, some metal bits and flowers. I was very inspired by one of our former creative team member Joyce Kers who kept a journal on inspirational women in her family, and I wanted to make a similar journal for myself but of my family tree which I hope to fill up in the year 2015.

    This is the project:

    and close-ups (warning: graphic-intensive!)

I have always used papers, cloth or canvas to create my layers but for this journal cover I decided to create my layers with the chipboards from Blue Fern Studios instead. The intricate laser-cut designs are perfect as every layer they form has lots of interesting details to catch the eye.

I wanted a blank white base to start with so that I can get to play with the new mediums I got for Christmas, but didn't want my chipboards to feel boring. So all the chipboard pieces were covered with different texture mediums.

My title piece which I kept simple.

Here is the video of how I put everything together:

    Blue Fern Studios products used:

    Floral Clock
    Fall Foliage
    Little Birds Set
    Leafy Page Accents
    Notebook Edges
    "Family" word

Thank you for dropping by the blog!
    love,
    Jelissa

    {3} Creations from Patter

Today I have three different projects for youa card, an altered binder, and a layout. All three creations use the new Blue Fern Garden papers. I hope you have had a chance to try them. They are truly wonderful! Now let's look at my creations.

    The Card
For my card today, I used the Blue Fern Garden Signature paper. I wanted to create a card that left the paper 'as is' but made it come alive if that makes sense. I did use some of the Blue Fern Garden Timeless paper too for the die cut leaves on the card.
I also used the Little Bird Set chipboard and hid the bird among the flowers. To color him, I added some distress ink, a little Sharpie for the beak, and a pearl for the eye.

    Little Bird Set

    The Binder
I needed a new recipe binder so I thought I would alter this 3-ring binder and turn it into my new recipe binder. I used the Blue Fern Garden Parlour and Calling Cards papers along with the Beaded Strings chipboard.
To color the chipboard, I put on a layer of gesso followed by some Shimmerz Texturez. Once that was dry, I randomly painted on some Luminarte Twinkling H2Os to match the papers.

    Sweet
And finally, here is my 8 1/2 x 11 layout. I used the March Blue Fern Studios sketch challenge for my page. There is still time for you to play along, so I hope you will join in the fun. Click the sketch at the top of the right column for details.

I used three of the new Blue Fern Garden papersIn Bloom, Boudoir, and Calling Cards. I also used three different pieces of chipboardShabby Brick Bits, Blue Fern Bits (hearts), and the title is from the Valentine Word Set.
To color the Shabby Brick chipboard, I randomly painted on some gesso. I wanted to leave some of it raw since I was coloring the other chipboard on the page. For the Blue Fern Bits (the hearts), I used some embossing powder and various paints to get a glossy and bumpy look. I painted the title from the Valentine Word set with acrylic paint.
