March Layout Inspiration - Joanne Bain

Hi Everyone!!

Joanne here with you today to share 2 layouts, one with a tutorial. Both are created with the totally gorgeous In The Mood collection.

For my first layout I chose to pull the darker colour in the collection and give my main cluster a bit of a colour pop with vibrant red.

'Love'

To frame my photo I have used the outside hearts from the In The Mood chipboard sheet. To create the pens, I used the pen stamp from the Desk Set stamp set, this was then embossed with Ebony embossing powder.

The small lace flowers were cut from Lace 3B. All chipboard was also embossed with Ebony embossing powder.

The background was created by using a stencil with black gesso and the while nearly dry a sprinkling of Ruby Slippers glitter was applied.

To build up added interest to the cluster I added some of the cream flowers from the Chesterville florals set. I also added some natural cheesecloth to add extra texture and softness to the page.

For my next page I chose to use the softer tones in the collection. I simply do adore this collection it is just so pretty. For this layout I also thought I would do a little step by step tutorial so you may be able to create this one yourself.

'Perfect Moment'

The small Roman clock face was cut in half layered and embossed with the gorgeous Pixie Dust embossing powder. The top half of the clock also had dark chocolate and Ivory embossing powders added.

The small frame behind the photo was coloured with Green Ivory embossing powder. In the background of the page there is a sprinkling of Mauve and Gold Nugget seedlings.

For added interest in the cluster I added some fussy cut flowers cut from the Attracted patterned paper.

The main feature flower is one of the lighter pink flowers from the Moody Florals set. I removed the centre of the flower and added my own.

The title and the background flourish were both coloured with Dark Chocolate embossing powder.

Joanne Bain - January Remnants Collection Inspiration

Hi Everyone!!

Firstly I just wanted to say how happy I am to be part of the 2018 Blue Fern Studios Design Team.

So who am I.....

I am Joanne Bain from Queensland, Australia.

I am a very proud mother of 2 and I am happily married to my best friend and have been for 24 years. He is the best husband a girl could ask for and is very supportive of my paper crafting. Most of my inspiration for this craft comes from my wonderful family and friends and also the beautiful array of products that are now available. When I am not scrapbooking, I am kept busy with all activities involving raising a happy family and I like dabbling around with photography which is perfect as I always have something to scrap.

We live in sunny Queensland Australia along with our 2 dogs and more pet birds then I can count. I have been a scrapbooker for 16 years since my daughter was the age of 3 and then 13 years ago along came the other special boy in my life my gorgeous son, many of my creations tend to feature them. From as far back as I can remember I was always doing some form of craft. I have sewed, crocheted, knitted, painted and scrapbooked throughout my teenage years without even knowing it….lol.

My preferred scrapping preference is 12 x 12 layouts and creating off the page/altered projects. I am not locked into a specific scrapping style, as I am happy to give anything a go but I would describe my style as structured with lots of layers, fussy cut paper cutting, detail, dimension and whitespace! Whitespace is the main feature to many of my layouts, I love creating embellished clusters that draw the eye in.

I am proud to say I have held design team positions for manufactures Prima Marketing, Graphic 45, Dusty Attic, Kaisercraft and Manourhouse Creations.

You can find me at:

Now it is time for me to share my January projects, I hope you enjoy and they inspire you to create.

For my projects today I created with the new Remnants collection. This collection is beautiful!

'Remember The Day'

For this layout I used 2 pieces of the Devonshire patterned paper, the colour is simply gorgeous and so so soft. I used one as the base for my page while the other was fussy cut to create my dimensional corner cluster.

How gorgeous are those birds?

I added mini some mini chipboard flourishes and a smaller Techno Square behind my photo for added detail and dimension. The chipboard was all lightly inked with chalk ink as I wanted a soft finish to it, some parts of it were also embossed with Ivory embossing powder, so love that colour.

To make the layout quiet feminine I added some of the gorgeous pastel coloured lillies from the Harvest Lillies set, I then added some cotton thread for added softness. The title for the page is from the Remnants printed chipboard set. I also added some chalk ink to this to slightly soften the colour and make it blend more with the background.

In the background I added a sprinkling of Mauve seedlings to compliment the page and some fussy cut butterflies.

So my next layout probably has a bit more of a masculine feel to it but I have added small little details to help give it some softness. The colouring for this page was inspired by the colour of the Tungsten wedding band being placed on my brothers finger.

'Forever'

For this page I chose to use the Callaway patterned paper from the Remnants collection. I love the grungy feel it has while having a slightly purplish tinge to it. This layout still has a lot of white space happening even though the cluster is more large and open. It also has a steampunk feel to it which I love.

The base of the cluster started with Bits Of Honey chipboard and then built up by adding Cogs & Gears chippy and some flowers. These were all painted with black gesso and then coloured with metallique wax.

The background was stamped with the honey bits stamp and embossed with Ebony embossing powder.

The circular frame over the photo are the throw away pieces from the small Roman Clock set, I never throw away chipboard shapes as you never know when they will come in handy. The Forever title piece was cut from the Families are Forever chipboard title.

Throughout the background of the page I added a sprinkling of Twig seedlings and some coordinating beads and pearls.

My final page today was created using the B side of the Callaway patterned paper and a strip from the Devonshire patterned paper. I cannot express how much I love the colouring of the Devonshire paper. it is just so pretty.

'Happy Together'

The main cluster was created using the Roman Clocks - Small chipboard set. I also added one of the chipboard dangles from the Romantic Page Dangles set.

Some parts of the chipboard was embossed with Ivory embossing powder once again along with chalk ink. The title is from the Remnants Printed chipboard set and has again been altered with chalk ink to give it a softer colouring.

For added interest I added a couple of flowers from the Wonderlust Lillies set. Cotton thread was added and then a sprinkling of Meadow Seedlings to the background.

April inspiration by Pascale

Hello Sweeties

I followed the April sketch for these first layout. I chose to work with papers of the Serendipity collection. Their vintage feel is a perfect match with the photo of Notre-Dame-la-Grande of Poitiers (France).

I started to add a layer of clear gesso to the background and the chipboards. Then I added adding a design with a stencil and 3D gloss gel.

While the design was drying, I colored the Whimsy Flourishes with a brown Distress inkand added a touch of gold wax.

I colored the die-cut sprigs with the same ink, sprayed them with water to activate the ink and sprinkled sage embossing ink while wet. I colored the leaves with the same Distress ink and some Twinkling H2O and added ginger and garnet embossing powder.

I colored the flowers with the H2Os too and I used them to added some color to the background too.

To finish I added some splatter of merlot glitter: I mixed soft matte gel with water and the glitter so I was able to splatter the mixing.

Chipboards - Whimsy Flourishes
Imagine Ink - Embossing Powders - Ginger, Garnet, Sage
Imagine Ink - Glitter - Merlot

-------------------------------------

The second layout showcase a photo of the entrance of the castle of the Temple (L'Ile-Bouchard - France).

I started to add a layer of clear gesso to protect the background and the chipboards. I added some texture the wall stamp and the oatmeal embossing powder.

I covered the Grid Pieces chipboards with a graphite paste. When dry, I splattered some color.

I  painted the Spring Branches with some Twinkling H2O  and sprinkled some embossing powders to add some texture.

I colored the flowers with some Twinkling H2O too.

When all the embellishments were glued, I added more wall prints: I used a twinkling H2O with a similar color as the background.

Serendipity collection - Calling Cards, Chronicle, Fascination
Chipboards - Spring Branche, Grid Pieces
Flowers - Courtship Blooms
Imagine Ink - Embossing powders - Verdant, Sage, Nutmeg

-------------------------------------

The third layout showcase another postcard from Rennes (France) where we can see the City Hall Belfry.

I started to add a layer of clear gesso to protect the background and all the chipboards. Then I added a design with a stencil and modeling paste. While the paste was still wet I sprinkled different colors of embossing powder and heat set them.

I covered the Roman Clock with black gesso, then I added some texture with the Texture Circles stamp and the Ginger embossing powder.

I covered the Leafy Page Accents with a white crackle paste. When dry I colored them with a light brown Twinkling H2O.

I colored the roses and the leaves with different Twinkling H2O and I added some ebossing powders on the leaves to add some textures.

I added some colors to the background and some random stamping with the Arcadia Textures stamp. To finish I splattered some glitters mixed with matte gel and water.

My layouts for April and a video featuring the Courtship Lane Collection by Marie-Eve Bernard

Hello,

This month, I had fun with the beautiful Courtship Lane Collection.  I like the soft look of this collection.  The colours remind me of spring. Spring is not completely arrived here, in Québec.  Hope it's better for you!  Can't wait that spring arrive here too!  The new flowers sets are awesome.  They match perfectly with the papers.

Selfie

It is not often that I create a layout with a picture of myself.  I'm not really a selfie kind of girl.  I prefer picture of my princesses, but this time, I'm please with the result!

On my background, I stamp with the Essential Texture Stamp set with embossing ink.  Then I add Ginger Imagine Ink Embossing Powder.  Once heated, I put colours on my paper with watercolours.  Notice, that I prep my paper first with clear gesso.

I put two coats of Ginger Imagine Ink on the Whimsy flourish.  The word Selfie is from the Selfies set.  I put heavy body gesso on it an use the same watercolours colours that I previsouly used on the background.

The littles greens and  browns flowers are from the Courtship Lane Collection Too.

I cut the Screen panel into pieces.  To alter it, I use several colours of Imagine Ink Embossing powder.  I used Sage, Verdant, Lime and Ginger.  I put a color, i heated it.  Put a little bit of another one and heated it...Use this process, till i'm pleased with the result.

Three April Projects Using Three Different Paper Lines By: Renea Harrison

Hello, and welcome to my April Design Team Reveal!! This month I have 3 different projects that I created using 3 of the newest Blue Fern Studios Paper Lines; Courtship Lane, Timeless and Serendipity. I love creating in different styles and I hope that you are inspired to try out one of the new paper collections and make it your own!!

I love creating beautiful pieces with hints of grunge and shabbiness and the new Blue Fern Courtship Lane Collection along with the April Sketch was perfect for pulling this look off
for this first layout:

I started with a layer of Courtship Lane Royal Street Paper and then added a 2nd layer of Courtship Lane Royal Street Paper that I heavily distressed and inked.

I added a layer of Timeless Lace for softness,

then took a Ruth's Doily Chipboard piece, painted it with gesso and script stamped it with clear embossing ink, coated it with Imagine Ink Ebony Embossing Powder tapped off the excess and heat set it to get a gorgeous raised script to match my book theme.

For the floral layer, I added a large fabric flower, and then layered in some of the new Blue Fern Courtship Lane Roses, some mulberry paper leaves, feathers and a resin swirl.

I then did some tearing at the top of my layout and took a Blue Fern Chipboard Peek A Boo, gave it the same technique treatment as the Doily, tucked it behind the tear and then sewed up the tear with some embroidery thread and tied a bow.
I added drips and splatters of gesso and glitter glass randomly to my layout for lots of visual interest.

I added some more of the Courtship Lane Roses, leaves and feathers to the top corner of the photo,

and added a Silver Pocket Watch that I filled with different beads and Glitter Glass for some really YUMMY Texture.

To finish up my layout, I took a Blue Fern Serendipity 1 Word-Contemplation and heat embossed it with the Ebony Embossing Powder, and then added on a set of my handcrafted Sweet Dreams Lavender Butterflies.

I just love the new Blue Fern Studios Serendipity Collection!! The papers are perfect for my "edgy" meets beautiful style, and provided the perfect venue for me to create this natural, grungy pocket journal:

I started with a pocket journal base that I sew together using upcycled manilla folders. I then layered on a piece of the Blue Fern Serendipity Glee Paper that I cut to fit my design

I cut a strip of canvas and 2 tone spray stained it and then threaded a metal safety pin into the top of it, added a little bird cabochon to match my theme and adhered the piece down the side of the journal.
I took some Blue Fern Chicken Wire Panel Chipboard pieces that I cut out from the panel, and gave them a "rusty" look by heat embossing them with Imagine Ink Nutmeg Embossing Powder, and tucked them into my design.

Next, came a piece of torn, 2 tone spray stained, corrugated board, topped with spray stained cheesecloth, and different flowers and little bird's nest.

I then took a Blue Fern Frill Heart Chipboard Piece, and I heat embossed the edges with Imagine Ink Peacock Embossing Powder. For the center I coated it with Shard Glitter Glass and then shot it with some of the spray stain that I used on the other pieces. I then created a little, multiple layer heart with leftover Serendipity Paper Pieces, and added a little flower.

I added another spray stained piece of canvas and cut out the word "Beauty" from the Serendipity Calling Cards Paper, and added it to it. The Chasing Butterflies are some of my handcrafted Butterflies that I love to add to my projects for added dimension.

The pockets of the Journal Base contain tags and pieces that I created from the Blue Fern Serendipity Glee, Imagination, and Calling Cards Papers. They include:
2 Oversized Tags topped with hand dyed seam binding bows and cabochons
2-Large tags topped with spray stained canvas pieces
2 - Calling Card Pieces that open up book style
and

this large piece that I created by taking a Blue Fern Swan Gate Chipboard Piece, and lining it with Serendipity Paper to create a tag. I added a Dream Metal Key and hand dyed seam binding hanger.

To get the rusted look on the gate, I first heat embossed it with Imagine Ink Peacock Embossing Powder, and then randomly dabbed it with clear embossing ink and sprinkled those spots with Imagine Ink Nutmeg Embossing Powder to get that YUMMY, aged look.

Here is the back side of the jounal that was finished out in Serendipity Imagination Paper.

And for my 3rd and final project, the Blue Fern Studios Timeless Collection with it's grungy, darker more Vintage look papers inspired me to create the following masculine layout of my son, Draven. I just used the papers in a way that omitted or covered up the more feminine floral designs to leave me with designs that worked perfectly for that no flower, all edginess of masculinity.

I started with a a layer of Timeless Main Street Paper, and then tore and layered in corrugated board pieces that I two tone misted and Timeless Papillons and Artistique Papers.

I did some edge curling on some of the paper and then inked them to match the corrugated board colors.

Next, I added in Blue Fern Roman Clock Chipboard (small).

I then took some Blue Fern Cogs And Gears Chipboard pieces, and heat embossed them with Imagine Ink Honey and Ebony Embossing Powders, and layered them onto the clock pieces.

I also used Blue Fern Frolic Mesh Chipboard that I cut into pieces and colored with a distress marker and tucked into random places throughout the layout. I added various metal pieces to round out the finishing touches for the layout.

Here you can see all the dimension and textures that the layers of papers and chipboard created.

I know a lot of you tell me that masculine work is a real challenge for you, but the Blue Fern papers and quality chipboard really do make it easy to pull a gorgeous masculine piece off!! Thank you so much for checking out my April work, and I hope you have fun creating!! Hugs~Renea
