Inspiration Overload ~ October Social Media Day

Hello, Blue Fern Studios followers!

Today is Social Media catch up day where we focus on YOU and your creations!
We hope that you are following us everywhere … Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube and of course, right here on our blog.
Remember to tag us so that we can see what you're creating!

Our first feature of the day is this lovely layout by @majo_rando. She is a self-described scrapbooking designer and instructor based in Yebisu/Tokyo. Here she has used the Frolic collection (designed by Michele Singh) and created beautiful frames for her frames, then encrusted the design with lots of gorgeous flowers and a tiny birdcage and ribbon, She blogs right Here. The pink and blue color combo are simply heavenly.

Our products can be used in so many ways, including off the page projects. Here Saba Musharrif has created a gorgeous custom two drawer box and covered the top with paper, flowers and a sentiment. Done with newlyweds in mind. Saba's Instagram username is @favorsmore. And she blogs at Saba's Craft Land.

Don't forget about cards!
Liana Kuzovaya of Russia shared this gorgeous purple card on Instagram. She's used Deja Vu and a Deja Vu Calling Card as her sentiment, altered some chipboard, then added lace and a resin butterfly. A few pearls create just a bit more romance. Look for Liana on Instagram @liana_kuzovaya. And remember to use those scraps for handmade cards!

We can always count on our paper collections designed by Manuela Zimmerman for that extra dose of drama!
We found this drop dead gorgeous creation by Joanne aka @scrap_joe on Instagram the other day. We love the distressed edges and use of the Circle Flourish chipboard piece! After some detective work, we found her blog Here! (Yes, we sometimes have to use superhuman investigative skills to find you!)

We finish with this amazing assemblage art piece by Jaihan Z. There are lots of products utilized in her piece but Blue Fern Studios chipboard is a part of that! We have loads of gears and assemblage pieces that would work great for you!  Jaihan puts lots of heart, soul and energy into her creation. We challenge you to think outside the box when using our products! To learn more about Jaihan, visit her Here and @hercreativeworld.

Well, we think you should be more than inspired by these amazing designers!
Maybe next month your name will be here!

See you in November!

Altered Art--with Keren Tamir

Hi Everyone,
Its Keren here with two altered projects for the Blue Fern Studios blog.

For my first project I created a pair of mermaid shadow boxes by altering two 6x6  canvases. I have a step by step video tutorial below to show you how I created them.

Here is the step by step video tutorial below:

I used two 6x6 canvases and reversed them to create the shadow box effect.
I love creating these type of projects as they are perfect for displaying on a mantlepiece.

I used the Seaside Cottage collection and various embossing powders and glitters to embellish these canvases.

I used real shells and starfish as embellishments and even added some netting to make it look as if it is under the sea.

<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>

My second project this month is an altered paint brush.

I took a wide old paint brush and embellished it using many different types of chipboard pieces.

I took a wide old paint brush and embellished it using many different types of Blue Fern Studios chipboard .

I used pieces from the following chipboard sets: Cogs and Gears, Moving Parts, Roman Clock and Wind up.
I also used one of the Tattered Butterflies as the focus and then I cut the chipboard word Heart to get the word Art. It was perfect for this piece and I still have the word "he" for another project.

The chipboard and paint brush was first covered in black gesso and then embossed with the following Blue Fern Studios embossing powders: Peacock, 14 Karat, Heavenly and Magenta.
Finally I added some touches of gold paint to fill in the areas where the embossing powders could not reach.

Thank you so much for visiting the Blue Fern Studios Blog
Have a wonderful day!!

Vintage Christmas

We have been keeping 2 secrets and we are excited that we can finally share the news with you.
First, we are bringing back our very popular Vintage Christmas Collection!  It sold out so quickly last year,
that many of you were unable to get it.  We couldn't let that happen, so we brought it back for you.
Here's a close-up look at the elegant Vintage Christmas paper collection featuring shades of
blue, green, red, pink, and neutral tones, all with a true vintage look.

Vintage Christmas

The second secret that we have been keeping, is that designer, Michele Singh, has created a
stunning companion collection we are calling Vintage Christmas 2.
This 6-sheet collection has all new designs with a vintage feel.
Combining these two collections will give you a generous 12 sheets
of 2-sided holiday paper for all your upcoming projects.

Vintage Christmas 2

We also have many chipboard pieces and titles, flowers, embossing powder,
and glitter that coordinate with these collections.  Keep checking our blog and
Social Media pages.  We will be sharing those in the near future.

October Projects by Maja

Good morning, BFS Fans, welcome to the blog today :)

I'm happy to be here again to share three layouts. They feature different collections and themes, but have something in common - they all show the "backsides" of papers for the backgrounds :)
Let's begin with the one you might have spotted during our October challenge announcement:

I made the layout using the Seaside Cottage collection. I layered selected paper, going for the nice pastel teal Regalia sheet for the background. Then I added the chickerwire chipboard painted with white gesso. Then I mounted the title chippies on it, combining some Spiritually Speaking words to form "Heaven Sent Blessings. :

I also added XOXO chipies and a mixture of flowers to further decorate the page. I chose the word pieces to be embossed with the Ruby ep for a nice contrast against the white chickenwire:

Heaven Sent Blessings:

Papers: Seaside Cottage: Relics, Regalia, Splendor, Whitewash
Chipboard: Chickenwire Panel, Spiritually Speaking, XOXO
Flowers: Seaside Lilies, Attic Charm Daisies, Courtship Blooms,
EP: Ruby

Now on to two layouts I made using the latest release, the Memoirs collection.
The first one was a true challenge for me, as I bravely used an yellow-orange-blue palette I'd never used before! :) But this combo makes a perfect choice to scrapbook your autumn, school or Halloween photos:

The palette was detrmined by the photo of my younger son that I used :) And so I selected the vintage newspaper sheet for the bacground that reminds me of some old book page. I added some brick stamped directly on it:

Embossed the "Noted" piece from Arrow Words and the Mini Frame Dangle with Tangerine and Copper eps and added the flowers in yellow and orange. Then I cut out the books motit and used it as a separate embellishment:

The title piece, Back To School, is embossed with Sand and Sea ep, one of my favourite new colours :) I also used a dimensional epoxy sticker to make an embellishment with a cut-out writing hand image. Finally I added some crystal dots and splashes of glitter ink to finish my page off:

Back to School:
Papers: Memoirs: Tale of Treasure, Calling Cards, Chronicles, Grand Sequel
Chipboard: Back to School, Mini Frame Dangle, Arrow Words
Flowers: Memoirs Blooms, Attic Charm Glitter Roses, Tranquility Blooms
Stamps: Essential Textures
EP: Sand & Sea, Tangerine, Copper

And here's the second layout I made with the Memoirs papers, and look how different it is!

I really love the deep dark red colour of the Songbird's Drama sheet! I wanted it to play the leading role and so used few elements on the page, not to cover it too much. The photo is one of the old photo shoot (you can tell by a different hairdo of my elder son ;) ) that I really like and already scrapbooked a dozen of times ;) First I layered nicely contrasting grey and red papers and added some stamping in the corners:

I embossed the gorgeous Chelsea Frame piece with Snow to make it clear white and really pop out of the background. Then I embossed the "you" from the title piece with Black Sand and then the whole of the chipboard with Ebony. I really like the metallic gold peeping through the black!

And finally I added the flower cluster with a bow of beautiful guipure lace and some embellies:

Grateful For You:
Papers: Memoires: Tale of Treasure, Songbird's Drama,
Chipboard: Chelsea Frame, Grateful For You
Flowers: Harvest Lilies, Dark Tropic Lilies
Stamps: Beads&Charms, Deja Vu, Forever, Ornamentals
EP: Ebony, Black Sand

And what do you think of the Memoirs collection? I hope to see many beautiful creations of yours with these papers!

See you later - Maja

Blending the Old with the New; October Inspiration with Sandi

Hello, hello!
Sandi here with you today sharing my October creations.
I've used 3 different paper collections but one thing remains the same: awesome Blue Fern Studios chipboard!

I received the new Memoires paper collection just a few days ago along with a new batch of chipboard, flowers, stamps, embossing powder and glitter. I love taking time to admire everything and start formulating ideas for projects.

"True Story"

The Memoires paper are my new favorite … they are kind of a blend of the "Serendipity" feel paired with the warm colors of our "Autumn Anthology" papers. So hard to decide where to start because each one is so beautiful!

The base layer is Twilight Fable layered with some torn Nature's Novel and Calling Cards for my photo layers. I did some mixed media work and then stamped randomly with the Crackle Textures stamp. Behind my photo you'll find the Persian Ornament chipboard piece which was embossed with the new Mocha Embossing Powder. It sure does shine! I treated the title piece from True Story, Big Drama the same way. I wanted the colors to mimic the papers, so stayed in that color family.

The Spring in Paris chipboard piece is divine! I chose Black Sand embossing powder for that one as well as for the border piece, Mina's Border. I thought is would work well for architectural pieces. Here you can see some of our new flowers, Memoires Blooms. So yummy!

My border is only attached in one spot since it is layered over the Persian Ornament piece, so it looks a little crooked although it's not. It's just dangling a bit. See how much shine you get with Mocha Embossing Powder, wow!

I'm dying over all the new stamps I received this time! Some of them have been available for a few months but my previous DT order went in before their release. I love stamps that have textural effects and have used this one around the edges of the paper and then randomly thoughout the design.

A really good look at the Persian Ornament chipboard!

Another sweet Memories Bloom off to the side.
I finished with some black ink splatters.
Now I can't wait to create my next Memoires project!

Blue Fern Studios products used:
Paper: Memoires Twilight Fable, Nature's Novel, Calling Cards
Chipboard: Persian Ornament, Spring in Paris, Mina's Border, True Story, Big Drama set
Stamps: Crackle Textures
Embossing Powder: Mocha, Black Sand
Flowers: Memoires Blooms

"Reminisce"

Serendipity is the collection that just keeps on giving for me! I have used almost all I have and am saving my tiniest scraps because it is so cherished! This time another engagement photo with a sunburst which captures the joy between these two lovebirds!

I did some texture work on the Merriment paper and then starting preparing my chipboard pieces. First the Rose Collage and then the Destiny Collage. This time, I decided to colorize with gelatoes after priming my chipboard with white gesso. Then I kicked the pieces up a notch by adding some random Auburn Embossing Powder. The Reminisce title piece from Serendipity Words 2 is simply inked and then dabbed with white gesso.

For flowers, I've used a combination of Tranquil Roses, Memoires Blooms and Late Winter Lilies. Layers were built with torn pieces of the Fascination paper and corrugated cardboard.

The Calling Cards that come with each paper collection are perfect for layering and as seen here, for using as a subtitle or title phrase. I've tucked in a bridal pearl spray from my stash and added a few art stones to my design. Of course, everything was dabbed with gesso to blend.

The Destiny Collage piece is a knockout on its own but the Auburn Embossing Powder is perfect for providing warmth to the page.

Just a close up of both the right corner of my design.

And finally a good close-up of the chipboard pieces themselves.

Blue Fern Products used:
Paper: Serendipity Merriment, Fascination and Calling Cards
Chipboard: Rose Collage, Destiny Collage, Serendipity Words 2
Embossing Powder: Auburn
Flowers: Tranquil Roses, Memoires Blooms and Late Winter Lilies

My last project was based on this month's Sketch by Michele Singh. You can find the October Challenge HERE.  We hope you'll find time to play along!

"Yesterday"

I've been waiting to scrap this sweet photo since last November. As a Designer I am always working ahead, so I was using Christmas paper by the time I got the photo. This is sweet granddaughter Zoe with a pumpkin almost half as big as her!

I dug back for an old favorite of mine, the Ombre Collection, specifically Leslie's Dream and Shannon's Dream. I took this opportunity to use the French Ironwork chipboard to anchor my design. I doubled my photos and nested then on some Calling Card, Shannon's Dream, cheesecloth and flowers!

The Seasonal Wildflowers are a favorite of my as well, especially for outdoor scenes. Tp add color I've used a combination of Lime and Sage Embossing Powder.

The French Ironwork is a majestic piece that I could used over and over. There are so many ways you could alter this for your designs. Here I've inked the piece and then added Nutmeg, 14 Karat and Chili Powder. The Yesterday title was treated the same.

My Attic Charm flowers seemed a perfect match for my little pumpkin patch, so I used the Glitter Roses and Attic Charm Daisies to complete my design. I added a few simple textural pieces such as cheese cloth and seam binding. To draw the eye to the center of the page, I use Persimmon Imagine Ink Mist around the central design to blend everything together and then to splatter on the page.

Just a dab of gesso and I'm done with this one!

Blue Fern Studios products used:
Paper: Ombre Dreams Leslies Dreams, Shannon's Dreams and Calaling Cards
Chipboard: French Ironwork, Seasonal Wildflowers, Today, Tomorrow, Yesterday
Embossing Powder: Nutmeg, 14 Karat and Chili Powder
Stamps: Halftone
Flowers: Attic Charm Glitter Roses, Daisies
Mist: Persimmon

I think that wraps up October for me.
You'll be seeing me here next month with some more Memoires creations!
Thanks for coming by!
