Video Tutorial for Happy Accident 2 Collection by Jessica

"Love"

Hello my friends! Before I get to my video tutorial for the newest Happy Accident 2 Collection, I want to share my first layout for September featuring the Tattered Walls Collection.  My background paper is "The Maid's Room".

The larger pink and white roses are from the Happy Roses collection.

In this picture, you can see the Opulence chipboard piece.  Originally it was dark brown then I embossed it with Pearl embossing powder (there are only very small patches of the Pearl embossing powder that is visible on the chipboard).  I then used the Super Grunge stamp and embossed the chipboard with Ivory embossing powder.  Next, I used the Crackle Textures stamp with a black water solvent ink pad to stamp over the chipboard.  Finally, I applied Lavender seedlings with matte gel.

I used a lot of Tattered Walls Ephemera as part of my background textures.  In this picture, you can see that I used the For the Birds stamps with black water solvent ink.

I love how the pink flowers were able to flow across the page!  The pinks and whites remind me of waves of roses.  In this picture you can also see the white Garden Blooms flower.  It was originally a rose, but I took two layers of the rose, put them together, and added some stamen I had from my stash.

"It's the Little Things in Life"

For my second layout, I used the newest Happy Accident 2 Collection and I am in love with it!  I used Happy Accident 2 "Smarty" as my background paper.  Under the stenciled area, I used Happy Accident 2 Ephemera and strips of "Damsel" paper.  I also distressed a piece of the "Damsel" paper and distressed Amber & Apricot's "Chapters" paper to go under my photo.  I also chose to use the new "It's the Little Things in Life" chipboard piece.  I coated it twice with gesso then spritzed it with brown and taupe mists.

I used the two new stamps Accidental Collage (slightly hidden at the left side of the page) and the flowers from the Garden Gate stamp set (slightly hidden under the floral panels at the top and bottom of the page).  I used the Tattered Newsprint stamp randomly around the page.

Here is a nice closeup where you can see that I embossed the pieces of chipboard with the Super Grunge Stamp and Pearl embossing powder.  Then I added little bits of the new Evening Sky seedlings randomly on the pieces of the Floral Panel chipboard that I cut into 3 sections.

I used flowers from both new sets of flowers - Happy Blossoms and Happy Florals.  The larger blue flower and the brown flower are from the Happy Florals and the other flowers on the page are from the Happy Blossoms set.  The Valerie's Butterflies chipboard pieces were painted twice with gesso then sprayed with blue and brown mists.  When they were dry I added extra concentrated white acrylic paint to the tips.  Finally, I used purple dimensional paint to adhere the new Wisteria seedlings to match the purple flowers on the page.

Under these three flowers and butterfly is the new Floral Butterfly Corner Panel chipboard that was created the same way as three pieces of the Floral Panel chipboard.  For the details, you can check out the video tutorial that explains it all.

Anyhow, I hope you get a chance to take a peak at the tutorial!  It is in fast forward motion and I tried to keep it as informative as possible without cutting out too much footage.  Thanks for stopping by!

April Pages . . . created by Sharon!

Hi Everyone!

I have been anxiously awaiting Spring and it seems to finally be here. I am very happy and excited to be sharing the layouts that I created for April! ♥  So here goes . . .

My first two pages were made with the amazing "Wanderlust" collection:

I absolutely love this gorgeous collection!  To me, it is perfect for vacation and summer photos.

♥ My First Layout:  Fantastic Getaway

I fussy cut a favorite photo of my daughter, Anne, taken back in the Summer of 2013 to use as the basis for my page.  I thought it would be wonderful to use "Seascape" as my background paper.  Isn't the paper beautiful?

I featured 2 different laces here - Lace 6 and Lace 11.  And I LOVED embossing directly on my page using the Buttercup Embossing Powder along with one of the crackle texture stamps in the "sandy" area of the background paper.

Here are some close ups:

Blue Fern Product List:
Paper: Wanderlust "Escape"
Chipboard: Wanderlust Chipboard Shapes
Embossing Powder: Buttercup
Stamp: Crackle Texture
Flowers: Chesterville Blooms
Seedlings: Glass
Lace:  Lace 6, Lace 11

My Second Layout:  Enjoy the Journey

I found a wonderful photo of the carousel at Bryant Park that I took during one of our visits to NYC!  I thought the lyrics from a favorite Joni Mitchell song of mine, "Circle Game," would be perfect here.

Again, I thoroughly enjoyed using the paper from the Wanderlust Collection.  This time I picked  the flip side of "Pacific Coast" to use in my background:

I just love these beautiful colors!!

And I decorated the chipboard carousel horse here on my page, too.

Here are some close ups:

I also want to mention that I loved working with the Ivory, Green Ivory and Antique Gold embossing powders and the Wintergreen Seedlings to create my Carousel Horse!

Blue Fern Product List:
Paper: Wanderlust "Pacific Coast" and "Memento"
Chipboard: Carousel Horse, Wanderlust Printed Chipboard Shapes
Embossing Powder:  Ivory, Green Ivory, Antique Gold
Flowers: Apricot Blooms, Chesterville Blooms
Seedlings: Wintergreen

I thoroughly enjoyed making both of these pages using Blue Fern Studios' Wanderlust
collection  - using all of their items made it a pleasure to scrap!

And my third page was made using the gorgeous "Remnants" collection:

My Third LayoutRemember this Day

I came across this treasured photo of my dad and I taken on my wedding day on March 3, 1990.  I have always loved this photo and thought that using the "Remnants" collection would be a perfect way to scrap it.

Just gorgeous!!!

I used the lyrics from Amy Grant and Gary Chapman's song
"My Father's Eyes."  I get teary eyed just thinking of this moment!!!

Some close ups:

I totally enjoyed using the Turkish Panel chipboard embossed with "Ivory" embossing powder!  And embossing directly on my page using the firework-like stamps from the "Christmas Collage" stamp set.

I am going to cherish this page for years to come thanks to the Blue Fern Studios products!

Blue Fern Product List:
Paper: Remnants "Westfield"
Chipboard: Turkish Panel, Remnants Printed Chipboard Shapes
Embossing Powder: Ivory
Stamp: Christmas Collage
Flowers: Happy Roses, Fresh Florals, Remnants Florals
Seedlings: Mauve, Sterling Silver
Lace:  Lace 3

I hope that I inspired you to create.  I find that it easy and fun when I use BFS!!

Thank you so much . . . and happy scrapping everyone!

Three new layouts by Jessica

"Special"

My first layout I created for the Blue Fern Studios design team for April is titled "Special".  For this layout, I chose to use papers from the Heartland Collection.  The background paper is Love Blooms and I used the Love Notes paper to build the matting under the picture.

I applied clear gesso to the background paper then did some stenciling with modeling paste.  To add more white with the modeling paste, I used diluted gesso on a plastic bag and "smooshed" it up and down my page.  My next step for the background work was to use a different stencil with modeling paste in areas around the page.  While it was still wet, I applied Dark Chocolate embossing powder over the modeling paste then dried it with a heat gun.  I love embossing with texture paste - for the next step, I added blue mist with a paint brush to the areas around the embossed stenciling.

At this point, I put my picture and embellishments in place then splattered diluted gesso up and down my page to create a soft and relaxing feel to it.

The Blue Fern Flourish chipboard was first embossed with Dark Chocolate embossing powder, then I added some Solar Flare glitter randomly in spots with matte gel medium.  Both lilies are from the Wanderlust Lillies set.  The lily to the left of the picture has Blue Ice Glitter applied with matte gel.  The lily to the right has Black Ice glitter applied to the tips with matte gel also.

Here's my list of Blue Fern Studios products for this layout:

"The Good Life"

My next creation features the Amber & Apricot collection.  My background paper is Sunny Disposition, and I love that I was able to  play with a lot of colors on this layout.

The Blue Fern Studios Seedlings with matte gel helped to accomplish the colorful and fun background.  I used Gold Nugget, Harvest, Pink Topaz, and Vivid Pink Seedlings.  The photo is mounted on the Amber & Apricot Birdsong paper pieces and some of the collection's Printed Chipboard.

I used flowers from two different sets: Dark Tropic Lilies and Wanderlust Lilies.  The white lace that is dangling to the left of the titled is Lace #10 from Blue Fern Studios - I love how it can twist and add dimension!  Here are a couple of closeups:

"XOXO"

My final layout features the In the Mood collection background paper with Memoires Calling Cards paper as matting for the photo.

I used the Tattered Newsprint stamp with Pure Red embossing powder randomly on the background.  To add interest and softness, I used Lace #10 to the top of the picture and Lace #12 on the side.

The flowers coral roses on the page are from the Happy Roses set and the other flowers are from the Harvest Lilies set.

The chipboard on the page is the XOXO chipboard title and hearts on the side of the picture and I also used one of the keys from the Vintage Keys set.  All of the chipboard was embossed with Baby Pink and a sprinkle of Coral embossing powder.

Remnants Video Tutorial and In the Mood Layout

Hello everyone and happy Valentine's Day!  Today I am up on the Blue Fern Studios blog to share a couple of layouts with you for February.

"Forever"

My first layout features the Remnants Collection.  I am very inspired by the whole collection so I decided to make another video tutorial for this layout.  You can see the video tutorial below.

I chose the Callaway paper for my background.  The Remnants Printed Chipboard pieces with a thin coat of gesso under my picture added just the right amount of dimension.  The circular chipboard pieces around the picture are from the Floral Circles Chipboard and the thin circle frame right behind the picture is from the Tattered Butterfly Chipboard.  I also used the word "Forever" from the Families are Forever Chipboard for the title.

Each piece of chipboard on my layout was first painted with two layers of gesso.  Then I double embossed the chipboard pieces with Pearl Embossing Powder.  Before the embossing powder dried, I sprinkled some White Gold Glitter on the wet embossing powder to add some shimmer.

All of my flowers in my layout have some gesso on the tips, and they were lightly sprinkled with Red Wine Glitter while it was still wet.

To the right of the picture, I used a rose from the Happy Roses set, and the rose to the left of the picture is from the Spring Florals set.  The other three flowers on my layout with the pearls in the center are from the Remnants Florals set.

My picture is mounted on a torn piece of the Mini Remnants Paper.  To add the final touches,  I used a very small amount of Purple Haze Seedlings in various areas around my picture and flowers.

I hope my video tutorial will provide you with some inspiration for your next layout!  Don't forget that I would love to answer any questions you may have. :-)

"Remember"

My second layout for this lovely February features the newest In the Mood Collection.  I chose to use the Pensive Paper for my background and mounted my photo on a torn piece of the Mellow Paper.

I applied modeling paste and stencil then added pink and brown mists to the background.  When it was dry, I used the Crackle Textures Stamp with archival ink.

Next I embossed the Treasured Floral Frame with Pixie Dust and Baby Pink Embossing Powder.  I glued it to the paper, then I used matte gel to attach the Lace 12.

While the matte gel was still wet, I sprinkled some Tickled and Sweet Pea Seedlings.  Next I splattered some diluted black gesso then glued the torn Mellow Paper.

I decided to use small pieces of the Floral Lattice Bits Chipboard embossed with Peacock Embossing Powder and added some Army Dust Glitter.   I glued the pieces under the flowers from the Moody Florals Set.  Finally, I attached the Lace 10 around the side of the picture and randomly added some Emerald Seedlings.

I hope I gave you some inspiration today as you create new layouts from this lovely collection!  Take care!

January Inspirations and Video Tutorial by Jessica

Hi everyone!  Hopefully you had a nice Christmas and New Year! I am super excited to be part of the awesome design team here at Blue Fern Studios for 2018.  I would like to introduce myself before I share my layouts.

My name is Jessica McFall and I tried mixed media scrapbooking for the first time in August, 2015.  I absolutely loved it!  In my personal life, I recently became an aunt to two awesome nephews!  They are TOO CUTE!  I am also the mother to my lovely cat Crimson. :-D  She is amazing, even if you are not a "cat person".  If my dad can grow fond of her, I think anyone can. haha

Here are the links to my websites:

Now, on with the show!

"Cherish Life"

For my first layout, I used the Beaumont Paper from the Remnants Collection for my background.

I cut one of the frames from the Ever After Frame Set in half, then used one of the halves on the left side of my page.  It was embossed with Night Sky Embossing Powder, and Red Wine Glitter was added in spots on the chipboard.  After that, I used the Penned Flourishes Stamp and embossed the image over it with Ivory Embossing Powder.

The flower on the left side of the page is from the Late Winter Lilies Flowers Set.  Using the Remnants Printed Chipboard, I decided to create the title for my layout - "Cherish Life".

My picture has been matted on parts of the Callaway Paper from the Remnants Collection.

Behind the picture, I added another frame from the Ever After Frame Set and embossed it with Green Ivory Embossing Powder.  Notice how the Meadow Seedlings add a nice touch to the chipboard.

To the left of the picture, I used a flower from the Remnants Blossoms, one from the Wanderlust Lilies set, and the rose at the bottom is from the Happy Roses set.

In the picture above, you get a nice closeup of the Branch Set Chipboard.

More Meadow Seedlings and Remnants Printed Chipboard to the right of the picture balances the layout very well.

The You Make Me Smile Chipboard in the center of the page was first embossed with Night Sky Embossing Powder, then I added Ivory Embossing Powder in spots over the Night Sky.

"Joy"

For my second layout titled "Joy", I included a video tutorial below mostly in fast forward.  I would love answering extra questions that you may have.  Please post them in the comments section here or on the Blue Fern Studios Youtube page and I will get back to you ASAP.

My background paper is Westfield from the Remnants Collection.  I used the Butterflies, Tattered Newsprint, and the Crackle Textures Stamps to create my background.

To the left and right edges of my layout, I embossed the Floral Lattice Bits Chipboard with Ivory Embossing Powder then Pearl Embossing Powder and added Burgundy Seedlings.

I also put the word Happy from the Remnants Printed Chipboard to the right edge of my page.

For this layout, I used two sets of flowers.  The Homespun Blossoms and Heartland Blossoms work well together since they both have beautiful white flowers.  The matting under my picture was created by embossing pieces of the Mini Remnants Paper with the Rose Frame and Journaling Cards Stamps with Dark Chocolate Embossing Powder.

To the right of the picture, pieces of the Ever After Frame Set were embossed with Ivory Embossing Powder.  The flowers have Russett Glitter added to the centers.

The title "Joy" comes from part of the Find Joy Chipboard and was embossed with Ivory Embossing Powder.

I randomly added some Meadow Seedlings in places around the page.

And here is my video tutorial that I promised.  My goal was to try and include a few explanations and tips that may not be in other video tutorials.  Anyhow, I hope it is fun and informative.  Have fun creating!

"Wonderful"

My last layout I would like to share with you is a winter themed layout using several of the Vintage Christmas Collection papers.  I chose to use the Auld Lang Syne paper for my background.

After adding clear gesso to my paper, I used some matte gel medium to attach various cards from the Holiday Cards paper and Greeting Cards paper.  I also used some of these cards as matting for my picture.  After adding texture with a stencil and texture paste, I used a little bit of taupe mist around my stenciled area.  After I added all of my elements to my layout, I decided I wanted more color over the taupe mist.  I chose another stencil with matte gel medium then sprinkled some Mauve Seedlings over the matte gel.  I was very glad I did.

I embossed the Ornate Medallions Chipboard with Pearl Embossing Powder, and while it was still hot, I sprinkled some White Gold Glitter on top to add a bit of sparkle.  To add more dimension to the page, I used some of the Vintage Christmas Printed Chipboard.  I LOVE how it can be used as a subtle accent to layouts or can be used as a focal point on a layout!  They are really versatile and fit the collections well.

The blue and white flowers are part of the Christmas Blooms set.  On the tips of each flower I added Blue Ice Glitter to make it have a frosty look.

The pink flowers on the page are part of the Remnants Blossoms set.  They also have some Blue Ice Glitter on the petal tips.

To help "anchor" the photo and the title, I added pieces of the Leafy Page Accents Chipboard.  I cut one of the chipboard pieces in half and embossed it with Green Ivory Embossing Powder.

I cut the word "Wonderful" from one of the Vintage Christmas Printed Chipboard pieces for the title of my layout.  I like how it looks like it is resting on the pink Remnants Blossoms flower.
